Secure File Delivery Service

Posted on April 04, 2022 by Paul Mac

It is almost impossible to operate a business without the use of the internet and whilst this amazing resource has its benefits, there are dangers too. Governments from around the world have slowly come to grips with the information age and are creating policy designed to drive behaviours that protect national interests. The cornerstone document in Australia is called the Privacy Act 1988 and it essentially deals in the privacy of Australian citizens.

The Privacy Act includes 13 Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), which apply to some private sector organisations, as well as most Australian Government agencies. These are collectively referred to as APP entities. The Privacy Act also regulates the privacy component of the consumer credit reporting system, tax file numbers, and health and medical research.

The Australian Privacy Principles govern standards, rights, and obligations around four key pillars:

  • the collection, use and disclosure of personal information
  • an organisation or agency’s governance and accountability
  • integrity and correction of personal information
  • the rights of individuals to access their personal information

Based on the principle outlined in “APP 11 – Security of personal information”, organisations have an obligation to manage personal information in a secure manner. This obligation extends to protecting that information whilst in transit to another organisation.

There are several issues that occur when a staff member needs to transfer information from one organisation to another:

  • Data Sovereignty – the information should not leave the country that it is governed by.
  • Accessibility – information encryption solutions are often the remit of highly technical individuals and not seen as accessible to general staff.
  • Simplicity – information encryption solutions are often complex tools that require a high degree of training in encryption technologies.

Fixus Technologies has embarked on a quest to create the Fixus Secure File Delivery Service and make it available in a secure, safe easy to use package. The Secure File Delivery Service will attempt to solve this problem in a way that works with the existing proliferation of technology – making it accessible and simple to use.

The Secure File Delivery Service is a solution to a problem faced by all organisations governed under the Australian Privacy Principles. It will deliver a tangible benefit to the process of transporting information and help to enhance the overall security of businesses operating in Australia.

The Secure File Delivery Service is now part of Fixus Release 11.4.
